Organization is key for boys!

Before a boy enrolls in our mentor program we meet with their mother for a discussion. One of topics we discuss is her son’s ability or inability to organize. When asked if this is an area of struggle, most moms will typically smirk and sarcastically reply “organi-what?” Most boys, whether from a single-parent home or not, struggle with organization in school and at home. Accordingly, we feel it is very important to equip our moms to teach their sons to value order and how to be organized.

We believe that organization is key when it comes to raising boys. It has been my experience that most men need a list in order to get things done. The creator of the term “honey do list” knew what she how to get things done around her house! Boys don’t have a “honey” to help yet, but they still have to learn how to stay organized and complete tasks with excellence.

If you want to help your son get orgainzed and lead a more productive lifestyle, we suggest you start by sitting him down and making a list of his chores, homework assignments, etc. Follow that list up with a list of consequences if the task list is not completed by the agreed deadline.

Be active in helping your son gain organization skills while learning to be more responsible and thoughtful.
